“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”- Psalm 139:23-24
How many of you pray every day? It seems like a simple question, and I know most would probably say prayer is a part of your normal life. But the real question I want to ask is, how much is admitting your sins part of your prayer life?
If you think about it, it's a tough thing to do. It's a humbling thing to do. It's a put yourself in a vulnerable state thing to do. But at times, we have this mindset that when we do something wrong, we feel guilty about it, say to ourselves we won't do it again, and move on. Just because God knows all and knows we;re sorry, doesn't mean we've brought our sins before Him.
It's easy to pray when we want something, but when we have to own up to our mistakes it's a tougher thing to do. Put yourself in a position where you have to walk up to your mom and admit you broke her favorite vase. Or how about walking up to your teacher and admit you cheated on a test. Or how about walking up to a friend and telling them you blurted their secret to everyone. So when it's time to face God with what we've done, it's just something you rather not do. It's hard because you're at the mercy of the person you're asking forgiveness from.
But just because we're already forgiven, doesn't mean we don't have to lay down our sins. To get forgiveness, we need to be willing to ask for it. So the next time you pray, I want you to read this verse. Focus on it. Meditate on it. Use this verse as a prayer to God for things you have done in which you have never asked forgiveness for. I know it's tough. I know you don't want to do it. I know you've probably done some things which you rather forget happened. But it's only when we humble ourselves, bring us down low, can we really build our relationship stronger with God.
